Sky News + charity research

Sky News had a theory they wanted to research: that families with SEND children, especially Mothers, are impacted by the additional needs of the child. They approached the charity Support SEND Kids to ask if they could run this research with their followers.

The project required a title and identity, a social media and newsletter strategy to reach not only our active followers but reach as far as we could into the SEND community. The results were collated, analysed and the subsequent report fed back to Sky News.

The story was featured throughout the day in Sept 2024. Following this, with the help of the charity's PR agency, the report was then featured by over 100 news outlets in the following weeks.

Design of time (MA)

The graphic novel tends to be judged as a work of literature, yet it is created through a design process and produced in book form. This research sets out to show how graphic novels address many graphic design challenges.

Communicate without words

Building on the Typography archive (Reading University) of Isotype materials, developed by the Neuraths in the 1930s, this research explores ways of representing the filmic qualities of early human art, without using words.

Reading aloud

Research project evaluating the proposal that reading ‘chapter books’ to children is beneficial. This work explores design interventions to overcome barriers to reading aloud to children.
