PROJECT introduction

The No-nonsense Guides is an expanding series of books produced by the Support SEND Kids charity and partner law firms. They provide legally accurate, parent-friendly guidance on the SEND (special educational needs or disabilities) education system. Their aim is to raise the standard of information on the laws that enable SEND children to get the right education, including the EHCP process.

The brand was launched with the initial publication in the series: the Noddy No-nonsense Guide to SEN Law. The content of the Noddy was created as a series of Q&A which could be shared as individual items on the SenateSense Q&A platform, allowing users to share, bookmark and leave comments for the authors. It also had to work in full book form, digitally as a pdf download and in print.

PROJECT delivery

As new titles were added the brand schema has to accommodate for an ever growing number of titles. Users different levels of legal understanding and literacy. Colour is used to identify each title. Tints of the primary brand colour are used as an internal navigation system to help users differentiate between the prelims and main body content, both in digital and in print.

Because the Guides are authored by barristers, the layout had to be created in Word to allow streamlined commenting, revisions and annual updates. The  print version is A5 landscape. Digitally the full version is Acrobat. The most user friendly version is hosted on the SenateSense Q&A platform, allowing users to interact with each individual Q&A building their own knowledge library.

The brand family has to deliver a strong identity on socials. This encourages users to re-engage with each annual update, which deliver the latest case law and a growing number of questions.

PROJECT results

The No-nonsense Guides have been accessed by close to 20k users in the last 12 months. The Department of Education emailed recently: “Each year we in DfE read the new edition of the Noddy Guide [Noddy No-nonsense Guide to SEN law] with considerable interest and we regularly refer to it in the course of our work."
